Lighting Maintenance Specialty is the scope the board lists as maintenance of electrical fixtures. The paper is 100 questions over five hours, open book, 75 percent, and it shares its reference list with the sign paper.

What the scope covers
The board lists maintenance of electrical fixtures as class code 065 among its specialty contractor categories, and the Know Your Scope chart names Lighting Maintenance Specialty as a certified scope. The registered ET license covers lighting maintenance inside one jurisdiction.
The paper itself
100 questions. Five hours. Open book. The vendor codes it LM. The pass mark is 75 percent, a passing score is good for three years, and the 50 question business paper applies.
Rule 61G6-6.002 is the specialty electrical contractor certification examination rule, effective 24 March 1999, and rule 61G6-6.017 on examination scores carries an effective date of 28 April 2020.
The books for this area
The approved list marks Engineering Sign Structures 1998 as RN23 and NEON, Techniques and Handling, fourth edition 1997, as RN25 for both SS and LM. NFPA 70, the 2023 National Electrical Code, is RN9 and applies here.
The OSHA volume RN7 and the Florida Contractors Manual RN50 apply to every area, and a bound PDF index is permitted with the manual.
The list also carries the dates future editions take over. The 2026 National Electrical Code is scheduled to become the reference edition on August 21, 2027, and several of the other books move on the same date.
The code side
Luminaires, lampholders and lamps sit in Article 410 of the National Electrical Code, and electric signs and outline lighting sit in Article 600. Both article numbers are the same in the 2023 book this exam uses and in the 2026 book. Our record of the moves between the two editions has no entry for either.

Money and booking
The certified examination application to the department is $263.25. The computer based exam fee paid to the vendor is $123.75. A retake is $67.25. The board's page says application fees are not refundable.
Pearson VUE runs the paper for the department. It's computer based and the department's page says it's available on a daily basis at testing sites, so you're picking a date rather than waiting for a sitting. You become eligible to schedule within 72 hours after your application is approved.
Book by phone on 888.204.6230 or online through the vendor's Florida page. The booklet asks you to call at least five business days before the date you want.
How to prepare for it
Working knowledge of fixtures carries part of this paper and the reference titles carry the rest. Tab the sign structure and neon books by subject before the day.
